What can you find on the woonboulevard in Waalwijk?

The woonboulevard is owned by De Mandemakers Groep12. According to the same broadcaster, after the rebuild it will once again include Kwantum, Leen Bakker, Haco, Prominent, Colora, Vloer.nu, Woonexpress and the Piet Klerkx Outlet, among others12. The large Piet Klerkx store is on the Professor van der Waalsweg and, according to the company, is also part of the woonboulevard5.

Part of the retail park is being rebuilt. On Thursday 30 April 2026, shortly after 14.00, fire broke out in the Kwantum warehouse1011. Kwantum and an empty Carpetright building were completely gutted, and other home furnishing stores were badly damaged10. Nobody was hurt1011.

The owner wants to rebuild everything. In May 2026 De Mandemakers Groep announced that Kwantum, Leen Bakker, Haco, Prominent, Colora and Vloer.nu would return and that the shops should reopen before the end of 202612. Woonexpress and the Piet Klerkx Outlet were spared, but closed temporarily for a clearance sale and repair work12. The Piet Klerkx website once again lists opening hours for the week of 12 October 2026 for the outlet at Professor Kamerlingh Onnesweg 8b6.

Where can you shop in Waalwijk town centre?

The heart of the shopping area lies around the Grotestraat, the Stationsstraat, the Raadhuisplein (town hall square) and the De Els shopping centre. That is clear from the town centre vision the municipality commissioned in October 20232. The centre is changing. On the Grotestraat west of the Raadhuisplein, shops were added and vacancy fell2. In the Stationsstraat and the eastern part of the Grotestraat, on the other hand, the range of shops shrank2.

Cafés and restaurants are growing around the Raadhuisplein and the Markt2. So if you go shopping, you can easily end up on a terrace, with the Schoenenkwartier within walking distance.

De Els is on the eve of a major redevelopment. According to the town centre vision, many units there have stood empty for years, partly on purpose, pending that renewal2. The municipality wants to strengthen De Els as a place for everyday shopping2.

The market has been in the centre since the summer of 2019. Before that it stood in the car park by the De Els shopping centre, where fewer and fewer visitors came. Two months after the move, market traders, shopkeepers and the municipality were calling it a success, and there was once again a waiting list of traders13.

New space is coming in an unexpected place. The municipality wants to buy land on Zanddonk, the oldest part of the industrial estate, to turn it into a mixed area with local small businesses, amenities and homes3.
